A Davenport elementary school got a big award today.
The Iowa State Board of Education gave the "Breaking the Barriers" award to Madison Elementary for improvements made in math and reading. In order to get the award, the achievement has to be among minorities or low income children. Madison staff members say they're proud of their students.
"They're here to celebrate and honor you," said Sara Gott, Principal at Madison Elementary. "All of our third, fourth, and fifth graders, for a job well done."
The award is only given to five schools in the state each year.
