A Davenport elementary school got a big award Friday.
The Iowa State Board of Education gave the "Breaking the Barriers" award to Madison Elementary for improvements made in math and reading.
In order to get the award, the achievement has to be among minorities or low income children.
Madison staff members said they're proud of their students.
"They're here to celebrate and honor you, all of our third, fourth, and fifth graders, for a job well done," said Sara Gott, principal of Madison Elementary School.
The "Breaking the Barriers" award is only given to five schools in the entire state of Iowa each year.
