Connecting the Quad Cities to Chicago by 2015, that's the goal for Illinois' Department of Transportation. Thursday, at the I-Wireless Center, IDOT, along with other transportation agencies announced the start of phase one of the Chicago-Quad Cities Rail Corridor Expansion Program. People got the chance to see the plans and time line for the 220 million dollar project. The track, being paid for by federal and state money, will stretch the Illinois Passenger Railway further west.
"A lot of folks don't really recognize that we're starting work until they actually see construction crews out there. I think it's nice we get the public involved early on so they know what's going on well before they actually see people out on the jobsite doing work," said Todd Popish, IDOT Project Manager.
IDOT plans to break ground in the Summer of 2014.
