The holidays are right around the corner, and that means the Marines are working hard to make sure area kids have presents on Christmas morning.

Families in need can start registering for Toys for Tots. To sign up, just go to the program's new headquarters in the old Zimmerman Honda building in Rock Island. Hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Thursdays through Saturdays until December 8th.

Last year, local Marines helped around 9,000 area kids.

"We had people out here two hours before we even opened," said Gunnery Sgt. Matthew Dorsey, a coordinator for Toys for Tots. "So that's probably a pretty good indication that there's a lot of people out there that need help this year."

You can help by donating money directly to the Marine Corps or buying toys. There are more than 600 toy drop boxes around the Quad Cities.

CBS4 is holding its very own toys for tots drive.

For the second year in a row, we will be out in the District of Rock Island collecting toys and money for needy QCA kids. You can drive up and drop off Tuesday, November 27th from 5:30 AM to 6:30 PM.

You can also bring donations to the CBS4 studios during regular business hours until December 8th.
