After 30 years, Rock Island Police Chief Scott Harris, is saying goodbye to the force.
A retirement party was held in his honor this afternoon at the MLK center. Harris says he's ready to go.
"I feel quite comfortable leaving the city," Harris said, "it's in capable hands."
But Harris isn't getting completely out of the business. He'll take over as the director of the office of public safety at Western Illinois University, where he'll be the chief law enforcement officer on campus.
Jason Foy will take over as the interim police chief.
"The men and women of the police department know what they're doing," says Harris. "All they need is someone to point them in the right direction and they're going in that direction. So my work's done."
