A Knox County sheriff's department volunteer has been arrested, accused of stealing thousands.
James Nelson, had been the chief of the auxiliary unit. A few months ago he stepped down. Investigators say he stopped coming to meetings and didn't turn in financial reports.
Investigators say they found out Nelson wrote $3,300 in auxiliary checks, and bought a computer, home office supplies and fixed his car. The auxiliary is run solely on donations.
