There's a mailer causing some fuss between local candidates.

The newsletter was sent out by Congressman Bobby Schilling's campaign to Democrats in his district.

The controversy?

The top of the Republican newsletter reads,

‘The Illinois Democrat.'

Needless to say, Democrats aren't pleased.

"People are angry at this," said Doug House, with the Rock Island County Democratic Party.

Folks with Rock Island County's Democratic headquarters held a news conference Tuesday afternoon, and said they've received many calls from confused voters.

They said the title of the mailer is misleading.

"It was an attempt to confuse people and try and portray himself as something other than he is," said House.

Congressman Schilling said he's surprised at all the fuss over the newsletter.

He said the purpose was to show he reaches out to everyone, regardless of their political party.

"If my opponent chooses not to reach out to Republicans, well, that's their problem," said Congressman Schilling.

Congressman Schilling said he thinks Democrats are making a big deal out of nothing.

"This is for them, somebody that's seeing a failing campaign, to try to make light of something," said Congressman Schilling.
