It was powerful evidence from an Illinois State Police CSI, that had him on the stand for nearly three hours. Only to be followed by a teary testimony from Sheley's wife herself.

It was a day filled with objections and emotions. Now retired, CSI Tom Merchie started with his blood splatter expertise. He was at the crime scene back in 2008 and explained blood patterns and the use of a chemical that makes blood glow to the jury. One thing he said really had Sheley's attorney reeling.

"In my opinion there was a bloody object that was dragged from the house into the garage and was placed in the trunk."

Holly Sheley was next on the stand. She and Sheley had been married a little over a month when Mr. Reed died. She says that on June 23rd 2008, she reluctantly bought her husband a lot of alcohol.

"Because I know how he gets when he drinks, when he drinks too much he becomes a violent drunk and if he drinks too much he just wants to go do drugs."

Throughout her testimony Holly also said that she and Nick had been to Mr. Reeds property at least three time while looking for spare metal to sell for money. Money she said Nick would often spend on crack.

Court will get going again Wednesday morning, we'll continue to bring you coverage of the trial.
