The freezing cold temps didn't stop some brave Quad Citians from going for a swim.
More than 50 people jumped into West Lake in Davenport for the Special Olympics polar plunge.
The swimmers had some fun with the plunge; dressing up in silly costumes all for a great cause.
"It seems chilly until you get into the water but then when you come out you're instantly a little warmer and glad to be out," says Trooper Dan Loussaert, Iowa State Patrol.
The money raised from the event helps more than 11,000 thousand Iowa athletes with disabilities.
