A Savanna, Illinois police officer is home tonight recovering after being injured in an early morning shooting incident.  Police say the officer was making a traffic stop on Route 84 about three miles south of Savanna when it happened.

The officer had taken custody of the male driver when the female passenger took off with the vehicle, came back and hit the driver.  The Savanna police officer fired at the vehicle, hitting it and the woman.

She later crashed the car into a home in Carroll County.  All three were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.  The woman has since been released and is in the Carroll County Jail.

The officer will be placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated by the Illinois State Police.  There is no word on the condition of the man who originally was driving the car.

Local, Beverly Bell works in Savanna and says something like is really rare for the area, and it's generating a lot of talk around town.
