It's almost too much for Bonnie Hayden to take, the thought that if her neighbor wouldn't have stepped in, she wouldn't be here.
"If I hadn't had got her out she would have died with her cat," says Joyce Marks, a tenant.
As soon as Joyce Marks smelled smoke and saw flames coming from Bonnie's apartment she ran over and banged on the door.
"It was so huge when she opened up the door, that the smoke was so black, I just saw a reminisce of a shadow of her."
Joyce says bonnie was searching for her cat and trying to put out the flames with a pitcher of water.
"I snatched her and I say bonnie come out."
Joyce grabbed Bonnie and pulled her to safety.
And while the ladies are left with nothing except the clothes on their backs.
Joyce says this tragedy is an important reminder... life is more important than the things in it.
"I'm good. I mean you can always replace things, but lives you can't so other than that I'm good. You know, I'm homeless, but I'm good."
