Firefighters say the blaze at 4325 26th Avenue in Moline started with an electrical malfunction in one of the apartments there.
Everyone made it out of the building safely, but residents are not allowed back in at the time.
Many of the residents are out in the cold with no coats or shoes, as firefighters go inside the building and try to gather clothes for the residents.
The Red Cross is still on scene, and now the Humane Society is there as well, rescuing pets.

The American Red Cross is responding to the apartment fire at 4325 26th Avenue in Moline.
According to a Red Cross Spokesperson, eight apartments have been affected by the blaze. The Red Cross is meeting with families at this time.
Fire crews were called to an apartment building in Moline just before 10:30 Thursday morning. CBS4 sent a crew to the building at 4325 26th Avenue as well.
As of 11:10am, the flames appear to be out, but our photojournalist reports a lot of smoke still coming from the building. It appears most of the damage was to an upstairs apartment.
