Was the teenage mother accused of leaving her baby in a ditch suffering from mental illness?
Baby Mia's father said in an interview with the media today that his ex girlfriend struggled after their other daughter was born.
"Doctor did give her a test for that and I mean, doctor did say she was borderline postpartum depression," said Timothy Thompson.
That was after their other daughter, Mercedes, was born last October.
Timothy said he heard his ex-girlfriend might have been checked out for postpartum depression after Mia was born too.
However, he's not sure.
"I mean, I just learn to get by, I just let rumors go by I mean, I ain't bi-partial to any rumors. I just let them go in one ear and out the other," said Thompson.
In an interview with the media today, Timothy and his family talked about their next step, setting up a trust fund for 1-month-old
Mia and her 11-month-old sister Mercedes.
"Money that will be in the trust fund will help my son Timothy Thompson, raise both Mia and Mercedes Thompson, since he is now a single parent," said Belinda Coley, Mia's grandmother.
For now, the family is just waiting to see what will happen with Mia's mother, Kendra Meaker.
At Meaker's first court appearance today her attorney asked that she be given a mental evaluation to determine if she's fit to stand trial.
The next court date is November 16th.
