The future of one local Q-C landmark could finally be decided Tuesday night.
Moline City Council will vote whether to sell the old train depot to Illinois Department of Transportation to help make way for the new I-74 bridge.
If the sale goes through, it puts the future of the 112 year old cargo depot out of the city's hands and into Illinois DOT who has said it plans to demolish the depot.
The Moline Preservation Society has been asking city leaders for months for money and time to help move the depot to a new home on Western Illinois University's Riverfront Campus.
Just two weeks ago, city leaders voted down a $155,000 asking price for the move. At the council meeting Tuesday night, the preservation society plans to ask for a 60 day extension to delay the sale and keep the depot from being demolished.
"It's not a whole lot of time to raise $155,000, but if it's something you believe in, you put your heart and soul into it and you hope you come through," says Diann Moore, President of Moline Preservation Society.
The city of Moline would receive $141,000 for the sale of the property.
That city council meeting will take place Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers.
