Special Olympic athletes showed off their skills on Sunday.

It was the annual Special Olympics Bowling at Highland Park Bowl in Moline.

More than 300 athletes took part in the competition.

Athletes from Knox, Warren, Henderson, and the Quad Cities competed in singles, doubles, and team bowling.

Volunteers helped out with score keeping, lane supervising, and the award ceremonies.

"For Special Olympics and Special Olympics athletes, they don't get opportunities like the general public does to participate in sports, so we're kind of the only game in town. They're all really looking forward to it because it's the one time a year they get to show the world what they can do," Special Olympics, Area Director Cathy Betar said.

Everyone who participated gets a gold ribbon and goes on to sectionals.

Organizers said it's fun, but also competitive.
