With more than 180 people
in the building, and 200 people waiting in line outside the RiverCenter in
Davenport the fifth annual Iowa Mission of Mercy (Iowa MOM) is up and running.
Clinic doors opened at 6:15
a.m., and patients are still being welcomed. Organizers are hoping to see
around 750 patients today, and even more tomorrow.
Approximately 75 people waited
outside the RiverCenter last night. Barb, a stay-at-home mom from Des Moines
was the first patient in line. This is her fourth Mission of Mercy, so she came
prepared with her winter coat, food, blankets and chairs. She had four teeth
pulled and was fitted for a "flipper" or a partial denture. As of 7:45 a.m.,
she was just waiting for her family and her flipper. The Iowa Mission of Mercy
(Iowa MOM) is a free two-day dental clinic. Since 2008, more than $3.5 million
in free dental care has been provided to 5,600 patients.
