The Moline Preservation Society is asking for your help saving a 112 year old train depot before it's too late. The problem is, it's in the path of the proposed I–74 bridge project. Thursday Night, the preservation society, along with some community members, gathered to go over fundraising ideas. They need to raise 155,000 dollars to move the train depot to the W-I-U campus, where the building can be used as a welcome center. But the city decided against using tourism funding for the move, so now the depot could be sold to the IDOT. The preservation society plans to ask for a 60 day extension at the next council meeting to keep the depot from being demolished.
"It's not a whole lot of time to raise 155,000, but if it's something you believe in, you put your heart and soul into it and you hope you come through," said Diann Moore, President of the Preservation Society. If you would like to donate money to save the depot molinepreservation.org.
