Karpeles museum opens in Rock Island

Hundreds of years of history are open to the public in Rock Island The Karpeles Manuscript Library and Museum opened Monday morning. The museum has the largest privately owned collection of historical manuscripts and documents including works by Einstein and the original draft of the bill of rights. It also features an exhibit of the life and writings of Mark Twain.

"They're very unique and because of the history related with the Mississippi River, the life that Mark Twain had here, it's a great opportunity to see that history and see how things were back in the time period in which he wrote" Museum Director John Snow said.

The museum on 22nd street, is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
