School has been in session for just over a month now, and
students and staff at the new Northeast Junior High have taken no time getting
settled in to their new digs.
"The teachers have done a wonderful job adjusting, as
have the kids to the new building," said Jim Widdop, principal at Northeast
Junior High.
The new high tech space is equipped with Mac computers, Smart
Boards, and open learning spaces for kids to get out of the classroom.
"The building itself is a beautiful environment for
education, but the building is what's providing us with some extra opportunity
that we didn't have last year," said Principal Widdop.
The new technology gives new opportunities to incorporate
more project based learning and a more inviting school environment.
Principal Widdop said overall the kids just seem more
excited about school this year.
"I think the kids are more inclined to work together in
an open building format. Instead of
narrow halls, I think they feel a freedom," said Principal Widdop.
There is also room for growth.
The building is built for 300 students, and currently 200
attend.
