MidAmerican Energy is studying locations in Muscatine and Fremont Counties for a potential new nuclear or natural gas plant. Soil and environmental tests are being conducted to find suitable land in the area in case the company decides to build a new facility.
The study evaluated
geography, environmental issues, proximity to transportation routes, and
proximity to existing transmission lines.
The company says sites
under study also may be a good location for other generating facilities, such as
a natural gas plant, if a nuclear plant is not pursued.
A meeting is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon to discuss the potential plant with area residents in Wilton, Iowa.
