Relocation talks continue for the old Moline train depot at Tuesday's Committee of the Whole meeting.
The Moline Historic Preservation Commission is coming back to city leaders with a significantly lower price tag to move the depot to the riverfront campus.
The price tag this time - at least $154,000.
That's about $14,000 more than the city was set to receive from the sale of the property.
"So they need to decide whether if they want to put any or all of that money toward the relocation of the depot," says Patrick Burke, Economic Development Manager for the city of Moline.
The local landmark currently sits in the way of one of the off-ramps for the new I-74 bridge.
Back in May, city leaders said no to paying $289,000 for the move. If the Historic Preservation Commission cannot come up with a way to move the old cargo depot, Illinois DOT plans to demolish the site.
City leaders explain that the Historic Preservation Commission was able to get creative to lower the cost this time.
"A lot of it was due to instead of replacing everything with new material, they were able to find people that could repair it for a drastically reduced cost," Burke adds.
That meeting takes place at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall in Moline. After the meeting, city leaders will make a recommendation for city council to vote on next week.
