The Quad City Phoenix Festival made a bold statement today.
It's a music and arts festival dedicated to the awareness of domestic violence.
The festival got the name ‘Phoenix' to represent the women, men and children who have experienced domestic abuse and have risen up stronger because of it... much like the mythical birds.
The theme of the festival today was ‘Still I rise.'
"I think a lot of us are unaware of how close to home it can hit. Pretty much, I'd say majority of people, women, men I know have known or do know someone who has been in an abusive relationship," said Emily Jawaoisc, the Founder and Events Coordinator of the Phoenix Festival.
This is the second year the Phoenix Festival has come to the QC.
The founder says music is a good way to self reflect and heal.
