A LeClaire family is homeless tonight. Flames burned through the roof of their Territorial Road hilltop home Sunday afternoon.
Leclaire fire, with the help of Princeton and Bettendorf had the fire out within an hour. The couple and their dog were home at the time, but everyone got out safely.
LeClaire Fire Chief, Mark Slagle says hilltop fires can get tricky.
"This time of year we have to be careful how much equipment we get up here, it could turn into a bottleneck situation pretty quickly for us in these rural settings. Had it been winter time it would have been a lot worse but today really wasn't that big of an issue for us."
Officials say the damage is primarily in the attic. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
