A heartbreaking case of child abuse in Dixon, a woman is charged with killing her step-son. The boy's father is accused of abusing his other child. Investigators say two young boys were abused at the hands of those who are supposed to protect them. Now, 7 year old Colton is dead. A coroner's report shows it all started 2 years ago when Tiffany Fassler "reportedly kicked Colton in the chest causing him to fall back and striking his head on a cabinet in the bathroom. Colton became unresponsive." The report goes on to say when Colton was brought into the hospital, doctors also found bruises and burns all over his body. Investigators say Colton had brain damage and died 11 months later in 2011. But his step–mom wasn't arrested until Thursday. So why did it take so long to charge Tiffany Fassler with murder? State's Attorney, Dixon, says first major testing had to be done on Colton's brain. "You have to link the cause of injury to the cause of the death." But Tiffany Fassler isn't the only one in trouble. Her then husband, Dixon firefighter Andrew Fassler, is now charged with aggravated battery to a minor. Police say he abused Colton's 10 year old brother. Despite the allegations swirling around the parents, neighbor, Misty Buskhol, says her neighbors are in her thoughts. "Definitely supportive of the family, Andy and the family and the boys and that prayers and everything need to still continue and go to them." Tiffany Fassler is out of jail on bond tonight.
