A Chicago man was sentenced to 40 months in Federal prison Friday thanks to some keen investigative work by the Davenport Police Department.  Nineteen year old Javon Daniels had been charged with possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute.

In January of 2012 Davenport Police were called to the Ground Transportation Center in downtown Davenport because a Greyhound bus driver smelled marijuana in the luggage compartment.  A drug sniffing dog was brought in and it indicated that one of the bags in the compartment had drugs in it.

Officers asked the bus passengers whose bag it was;  no one admitted it.  Because no one claimed the luggage the police opened the bag, which contained marijuana, cocaine, crack cocaine, and the identification card of Daniels, who was still sitting on the bus.

Further investigation determined that Daniels was transporting the drugs from Chicago to Iowa City.  After serving the full 40 months, Daniels will have to serve another four years probation.
