After Hyman's Furniture closed in downtown Rock Island in 2011, the city is finally welcoming its replacement - the Stern Center.
The banquet hall offers the city a large space for different events. The building was originally home to McCabe's department store which the director says played a big part in their inspiration for the building.
Director Michael Stern says his family is pouring over a million dollars into the center.
"This is such a beautiful old building that we wanted to bring back the old nostalgia from McCabe's days and just put money back into the city," says Michael Stern, Director of The Stern Center.
Stern says he's already filling up for a lot of 2013. There will be an official grand opening for the center today at 4 p.m.
