Nearly 30 thousand Chicago teachers traded in their pencils and paper Monday morning for picket signs.
The strike is over contracts.
The teachers union said the proposed evaluation program could lead to 6,000 teachers losing their jobs,
Mayor Rahm Emanuel said that program was devised by teachers, for teachers.
The union also said they weren't getting the raises they deserve.
The strike forced hundreds of thousands of parents to scramble and rearranged their schedules.
