Galesburg Mayor Sal Garza has vetoed the marijuana ordinance passed by the City Council on Monday. The mayor says that stronger language is needed regarding youth offenders.
The ordinance called for allowing people caught with less than 2 1/2 grams of pot to be ticketed and fined instead of arrested.
Garza recommends that the council include requiring the completion of an assessment and education programs for youth offenders.
The measure can now be returned to the council for their next meeting. If the council decided to reconsider they can override the mayor's veto with a 2/3 vote.
