A Davenport man who admitted to smoking synthetic marijuana before a crash that killed his friend received a sentence of probation Wednesday afternoon. Cody Lantau was sentenced to ten years in prison but under a plea agreement that sentence was suspended.
Lantau will instead serve five years probation and was fined $1000. He will also have to pay restitution.
Lantau killed 17 year old William Schwener at a party in a rural Davenport field in December of last year. He was behind the wheel of an SUV when he lost control and pinned Schwener against a parked car.
