Hat Trick For Reading

CBS4 and Your Quad City Mallards are teaming up to stimulate interest in reading
among local elementary school students with the

HAT TRICK FOR READING PROGRAM

Program Description
Each student in your class will be given a Mallards bookmark to help promote the program, encourage participation and track their progress toward scoring a reading "hat trick." In the sport of hockey, scoring three goals in one game is considered a hat trick. When your student reads three books, they will have earned their way to a Mallards game! Students who reach the achievement will receive a complimentary Mallards ticket voucher (youth ticket value of $15), good for either Saturday, December 17 or Friday, March 16 depending on whether a teacher participates in the fall or spring. It will be up to the individual teacher to determine appropriate reading material and provide verification books have been read. Upon completion of the program, a list of achieving students will be provided to the Mallards.  The Mallards are proud to offer Quad City area students the opportunity to attend a game at no cost in reward for their hard work in the classroom.

The Mallards Will Provide:
  • Mallards bookmarks for each student
  • Posters to promote the program
  • Player and mascot appearances when possible to support the program, this could include anything ranging from a school-wide assembly to a small group visit
  • Recognition of each participating school on the video and ribbon board at your Hat Trick for Reading Night
Your School Will Provide:
  • Teacher and staff participation
  • Assistance in scheduling visits
  • Administration of the program, with teachers tracking and verifying reading achievements
  • List of student achievers who scored a reading hat trick
  • Distribution of tickets to students
