MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ Former inmates at the federal prison camp in northern Minnesota where former Illinois Governor George Ryan may soon report say the population at the institution is "pretty tame."
A federal judge ordered Ryan to report to prison November Seventh, but his attorneys continue to pursue appeals in his corruption conviction. If that effort fails, Ryan hopes to be reassigned to the federal prison in Oxford, Wisconsin, because it is closer to his home and would be easier for his family to visit him.
Recent inmates at the minimum-security facility in Duluth say the prison is filled mainly with white collar criminals and low-level drug dealers. In 2005, Forbes-dot-com put it on the list of "The 12 best places to go to prison."
