Reporter Christina PalladinoAre you tired of pain? Wondering what you can do to feel active and more like yourself again? Many people suffer from chronic pain and debilitating illnesses in this country. Usually we go to our physician, we are prescribed some sort of drug to take to make the pain go away, and then we hope to get better. But a lot of times, the pain doesn't go away and we're forced to just deal with our misery, but what if there was some sort of natural way to heal our bodies...I want to introduce you to Zhenya Wine, a massage therapist from Russia, who has actually created her own type of massage therapy to help people's pain go away--and she has an office right here in Moline.
Many people may be skeptical of this type of treatment at first--it may be hard to believe by massaging and touching various parts of the body you can actually rid yourself of the pain and side effects of illnesses such as multiple scelrosis, Parkinson's disease, and even cancer. Ms. Wine has treated patients suffering from all of these disorders--she's a firm believer in positive re-inforcement, anything that's natural going into the body is going to do some type of good--and with her Russian background--of only using natural herbs, lotions, and other remedies from her homeland--she says the treatment "re-educates" the body of what to do with pain. One of her clients, Kelly, who suffered from severe migraines most of her life, started going to her last spring--now she says her migraines are completely gone and Ms. Wine also helped get rid of her allergies--which were making Kelly miss days of work because she felt so awful.
Ms. Wine's treatment involves her hands--she created her own type of pressure gliding and vibration system that's better than any type of masage machine. She also works alongside a chiropractor--Dr. Clifton Bethel--making the duo a good combination for patients who may need to see a chiropractor as well. Ms. Wine says she never over-steps her treatments to her patients--if they need to see a chiropractor because their back is swollen she recommends Dr. Bethel--and this is one of the reasons people like her practice.
Although, alternative medicine or therapy has been around for centuries--think back to times where conventional medicine and hospitals didn't exist--the ideology of holistic and spiritual healing, using natural treatments and products is still somewhat not offered in hospitals. However, doctors at Trinity Hospital say they are hearing more and more of prescribing this type of treatment alongside conventional medicine even with their sickest patients, suffering from cancer. In fact, at the end of June, the First Complementary Alternative Medicine Conference was held in the Quad-Cities and doctors say about eighty percent of the audience was from the general public, wanting to know more about these type of treatments being offered.
People might still be unsure of these type of holistic treatments, especially when it comes to illnesses like cancer, but it's something doctors in conventional medicine want to incorporate in their treatments--and as the old saying goes you'll never know how something works until you try it.
Connecting health and healing is something both those in the medical field and alternative therapy field want to do for everyone going through pain or a sickness.
