U.S. Representative Jim Nussle met Monday morning with Scott County doctors at Genesis East Hospital.
The doctors said malpractice insurance premiums are directly related to the rising cost of healthcare.
Congressman Nussle said what he's learning from doctors will help lawmakes come up with legislation to change the system.
"It's not just an Iowa problem, although in that mix we are hoping to fix the Iowa rate, it's a national issue we're going to be tackling." Nussle said.
"I do think that things need to change primarily on the medical liability side but also on the Physician Reimbursement side." Dan Congreve said, Congreve is a former surgeon.
Doctors said the tens of thousands of dollars they pay for malpractice insurance forces them to see more patients, to spend less time with them, and to call for expensive tests to lessen their chances of being sued.
