Racing Accident Kills One,Injures Another

A car wreck on a local racetrack kills one and injures another.

Twenty-eight year-old Brenton Slocum of Burlington is dead and 16year-old Michael Mott is being treated at the University of Illinois Hospital.

It all started after a three car crash at Highway 34 Raceway near West Burlington at about 7pm Saturday night. Sixty-one year-old John Batchelor lost control of the sprint car he was driving as he was coming off the track. He ran into the back of a late model car in the pit area. That car struck a third vehicle that was being worked on by several people

Solcum was pinned under the car. He was pronounced dead at Great River Medical Center. The Iowa State Patrol is still looking into the cause of the accident.
