CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) - Lieutenant Governor Sheila Simon has expanded her virtual legal clinic program to help domestic violence victims at the Cairo Women's Shelter in southern Illinois. The program allows victims of domestic violence to get a free legal consultation with a lawyer via webcams and high-speed Internet.

MUPRHYSBORO, Ill. (AP) - A southern Illinois woman who threw her baby away after giving birth at a party has been sentenced to three years in prison. Twenty-5-year-old Casey Parnell of Du Quoin pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in March. She was arrested in December after authorities learned she had thrown the baby away at a 2011 house party in Carbondale.

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) - A Las Vegas man is accused in Illinois of a timeshare scam that federal prosecutors say bilked $10 million from more than 3,000 victims across the U.S., Canada and other countries. A grand jury in East St. Louis indicted Michael Patrick Sullivan on conspiracy to commit wire fraud and mail fraud charges.

AURORA, Ill. (AP) - An Aurora police officer has been honored for saving a man from a burning car last June while he was off duty. Officer Matthew Bonnie received the Illinois Law Enforcement Medal of Honor during a ceremony this week at the governor's mansion. He also received the Louis Spuhler Award, given to Kane County's Police Officer of the Year.
