Gun shots rang out, just blocks away from a school Friday. Two people are dead in Rock Falls, Illinois. Rock Falls officers were called to the corner of West 19th Street and 8th Avenue. In the cross walk they found a woman in her mid 40's, shot, just feet away from Dillon Elementary School.
"There were cops everywhere and there were cops down at the school and we couldn't get into the courts," Resident Celie Jones said.
From the scene police said they chased after the suspect. The suspect was a man in his 50's. The suspect ran towards the 700 block of West 18th Street. Police followed him as he went into an apartment in the Coloma Homes neighborhood. Area S.W.A.T teams were called in, inside they found another woman and the suspect dead inside. Schools in Rock Falls, Sterling and Dixon were on lock down during the incident. Parents said they were terrified.
"One of the teachers said when she was walking into the school they heard it," Parent Marci Tomkinson said.
Meanwhile, neighbors said it is disturbing to know everything happened so close to home.
"Things like this don't usually happen around here too often. I think that's why people like me live here too, they feel safe but it's just devastating," Neighbor Connie Garza said.
Police are not releasing anymore details as to whom the victims and shooter are.
