"The Wacky-Tacky Art Exhibit"
July 4-August 6
The flock returns to the Quad City Botanical Center this summer. Over 60 area artists have artistically altered plastic pink lawn flamingos into works of art. The exhibit is open during regular Botanical Center hours. Join us for Fun Family Programming every Sunday in July. The Sunday family activities are free with paid admission to the garden!
In addition to the Flamingo Follies exhibit, the photographs of Megan Hershbarger and Ryan Rivers will be on display inside the Botanical Center. Megan's photographs are all about the color pink. Ryan's photographs will feature wildlife, some tropical and some native. A Reception for the Artist will be held 1-3pm July 4th
Sundays are Family Flamingo Fun Days
All Sunday Programming is FREE with paid admission to the gardens!
Adults: $5.00/ Seniors: $4.00/ Kids: $1-$3 Members always free!
July 4 1-3pm: Think Pink (opening day)
Join us to learn about the environment of flamingos. We will be recreating the environment with an art project, learning some fun flamingo facts, along with a special treat much like what flamingos eat.
July 11 1-3pm: Flamingo-ology
Let's learn about flamingos! Join us to learn how flamingos become pink and the creation of two different types of flamingos. The first type of flamingo will be edible and the second is available for decoration for a $5 add-on fee and will then be displayed in the children's garden until the Flamingo Fling on August.
All activities are free with admission to the gardens with the exception of the $5 add-on fee for decorating a flamingo.
July 18 1-3pm: Flamingo Games
Come and compete in our Flamingo Games! We will be testing your balancing skills with two different games. We will learn more about flamingos and then test your knowledge of what you learned. And finally, we will test your creativity with a fun food activity.
July 25 1-3pm: Ice Cream Social
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Enjoy some strawberry ice cream while learning more about flamingos and their friends. You can also take part in creating your very own flamingo mask, all while enjoying some festive luau music.

You saw the art exhibit Flamingo Follies and said to yourself. " Boy, I would love one of those for my own yard!" Well here's your chance. The very same flamingos that have been on exhibit in the gardens of the Botanical Center for the month of July will be auctioned off at the Flamingo Fling Friday, August 6, featuring a live art auction and entertainment by the Fry Daddies. The tropical party includes: live band, live auction, cash bar, light appetizers, best dressed flamingo guest, raffle and much more. Think you want to surprise a friend? Rent the Flock!
Have you ever seen a flock of flamingos in a front yard? How would you like to be the one responsible for flocking a friend's yard with flamingos? The Quad City Botanical Center will do just that as part of our Flamingo Follies celebration! The Quad City Botanical Center has FOUR flocks of flamingos! For a fee, the QCBC's very own "Flocking Crew" will put 25 plastic flamingos in the yard of a friend, relative or neighbor. They will stay there for 48 hours before they "fly" to their next location. This fun opportunity will last from Monday, June 28th until Friday, August 6th. On August 6th, all four flocks will fly home to the Quad City Botanical Center for our Flamingo Fling event.
Prices:
$25.00 for 25 pink, plastic yard flamingos. Delivered and installed in the yard of your neighbor, relative or friend. You can rent multiple flocks for one yard if desired.

July 6th, 1-3 p.m. -- CREATE A NATURE JOURNAL - Ages 7 and up -- $25.00 per person
Our garden explorers will create and bind their own nature journal based on their guided discoveries in our gardens. They will take and save leaf samples, seeds, create sketches of their findings, and write about their observations. All supplies included with class fee.
July 7th, 1-3 p.m. -- SUMMER FUN -- Ages 6-10 -- $30.00 per person
Itching to run in the sun and have fun? Well this summer fun activity includes bubble printing, a make and take kite that students will get to test in the lawns of the Botanical Center, and yarn ball ornaments that can be hung in their rooms at home. Supplies included with class fee.
July 13th, 1-3 p.m. -- HABITATS AND ECOSYSTEMS - Ages 7-14 -- $20.00 per person
Explorers will learn about Habitats and Ecosystems from around the world. Tour our garden and see a few habitats within our tropical sun garden. Each student will also make a habitat of their own. All supplies included with class fee.
July 14th , 2-5 p.m. -- NATURAL DYES - Ages 10 and up -- $35.00 per person
Ever tie dye a t-shirt? Well, we have Mother Nature to thank for her bountiful amount of colors. Participants will learn about the history of dyes and colors, then explore dye sources and use those dyes to enhance natural cloths. Each will create a project from their dyed materials. All supplies included with class fee.
July 15th, 2-5 p.m. - MAKING PLANT-ABLE PAPER -- Ages 10 and up -- $35.00 per person
Express yourself with a card and share in the effort of recycling by creating a homemade card from plant and environmentally friendly materials that can be plated and turned into beautiful flowers. All supplies and materials are included in class fee.
July 16th, 1-3 p.m. -- SUPERHERO DAY AT THE BOTANICAL CENTER -- Ages 7-14 -- $15.00 per person
Come in the costume of your favorite superhero! We will have fun activities, both in the tropical sun garden and our outside gardens. We will test your superhero powers and also learn about the "super heroes" of the plant world.
July 17th, 1-3 p.m. -- BUDDING BOTANISTS -- Ages 2-5 years plus adult -- $20.00 for adult and child pair (second parent or guardian is $2.00 extra)
Our Budding Botanist Day encourages parents to interact alongside their children in nature. They will explore with all their senses. Children will take a series of walks and play games to help introduce them to the joys of nature. A small nature snack will be included. Please let contact know about any food allergies or preferences. CLASS WILL ALSO BE OFFERED JULY 24th FROM 1-3 p.m.
July 20th, 1-3 p.m. -- PIRATE GARDEN TREASURE HUNT -- Ages 6 and up -- $15.00 per person
Unlock the secrets of our outdoor gardens! Find the clues that will lead to the treasure. Dress like a pirate and join us for fun prizes and learn new and interesting things about the world around us.
July 21st, 1-3 p.m. -- INSECTS -- Ages 7-14 -- $25.00 per person
From bees to butterflies, and spiders to crickets, explorers will learn about a variety of insects and make a cricket chirper and a spider web to take home. All supplies included with class fee.
July 22nd, 2-5 p.m. -- POLYMER CLAY JEWELRY -- Ages 10 and up -- $40.00 per person
Led by local artist Megan Crandall Cooper, participants will create nature inspired polymer jewelry. Each participant will go home with a selection of earrings, brooches, necklaces, and charms. They will be introduced to basic polymer concepts and given beginner instruction on creating their own jewelry. All supplies included in class fee.
July 24th, 1-3 p.m. -- BUDDING BOTANISTS -- Ages 2-5 years plus adult -- $20.00 for adult and child (second parent or guardian is $2.00 extra)

Each artist will receive their own set of pastels and a sketchpad with class fee. They will then be given instruction by a local artists and encouraged to observe and draw throughout indoor and outdoor gardens.
